NotifyC is a campus notification app that lets faculty/staff at a department broadcast notices to their students, and lets students and faculty react to and comment on those notices. This policy explains what data NotifyC collects, why, and how it's handled.
Who this applies to
- Students joining a department's notice board.
- Faculty/Staff posting notices to their department's groups.
- Superadmins managing departments on behalf of an institution.
Information we collect
Account information: full name, email address, mobile number (students), registration number (students), department and group membership.
Content you create: posts, comments, and reactions you author, and attachments you upload (PDF, image, audio, or video files).
Device information: a push notification token, so your device can receive notices for the groups you belong to, and a device identifier, used only to associate your push token with your account.
Usage information: which posts you've viewed and downloaded, so faculty/staff can see basic engagement on their own notices (view/download/reaction/comment counts). Individual students are never identified to faculty in this data — only aggregate counts.
How we use this information
- To create and maintain your account, and to route notices to the correct department and groups.
- To deliver push notifications for new posts in groups you belong to.
- To let faculty/staff see aggregate engagement on their own notices.
- To let faculty/staff moderate (edit or remove) a student's comment within their own department, when necessary.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Data retention
- Posts and their attachments are automatically deleted from our servers 7 days after posting.
- Your device may keep a local, on-device copy of posts you've viewed for up to 30 days after the server copy expires, so you can still refer back to them offline. This local copy is stored only on your own device.
- If you delete your account, your profile, group memberships, comments, and reactions are permanently removed from our servers. This cannot be undone.
Who can see your information
- Your name is visible to other members of the groups you belong to, on posts/comments/reactions you author.
- Your email and mobile number are never shown to other students or faculty — they're used only for your own sign-in.
- Superadmins can see roster information (name, email, mobile number, registration number) for departments they administer.
Third-party services
NotifyC is built on:
- Supabase, for authentication, database, and file storage.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging, for delivering push notifications to your device.
These providers process data only as needed to provide their respective services to NotifyC, not for their own independent purposes.
Your choices
- You can update your own registration number, mobile number, or academic status at any time from Settings.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings — this permanently removes your profile and everything described under "Data retention" above.
